Why Buy an air mattress ?
It’s hard for most people to sleep on the ground, caveman style. It’s even harder for those who are not so young anymore and have a lot of little aches and pains.
Camping air mattresses also known as airbeds give you as close to the support and softness of your own bed that you can get while camping. After all you won’t be able to explore and get close to nature if you have a sore back from sleeping on the ground.
The deflated mattress can be rolled up or folded and easily carried or stored which make them great for camping as well as for temporary bedding for houseguests. They are a great choice for camping but you need to carefully consider your requirements and options before deciding on which camping air mattress is right for you.
Should I buy a heavy or light air mattress?
So you ‘re going to get an air mattress, now for the big question —heavier or lighter? Air mattresses come in two types, heavy or light, based on the materials they’re made from.
If you main priority is to get a comfortable mattress, then you want to go with a heavy one. They’re thicker and constructed of more comfortable materials. They will also last longer than light ones.
These air mattresses work well for if you camp close to home or have kids camping with you. They are about as close to a real bed as you can get. They’re easy and quick to inflate with a portable electric pump. But they are somewhat bulky.
On the other hand if your going to do a lot of physical activities on your camping trip like hiking, trekking, or rock climbing you want to go with light air mattress. The lighter weight airbeds are much easier to carry and more convenient for hikers. However they are not quite as durable as the thicker, heavy air mattresses. That doesn’t mean they are flimsy or damage prone. They are still good portable mattresses but you wouldn’t want kids jumping on them. Take a bit of time to find the best air mattress for camping!

Foot pump or electric? What’s best and why?
So you bought an air mattress and now you need a pump. Should you get a hand pump or an electric pump?
When camping, use an electric pump to fill your mattress for air if your campsite is close to where you are parked. But if you have to walk a long way from your car to your campsite it’s too hard to carry the bulky electric pump. So, in that case you’d want a hand/foot pump.
Portable Pump – uses DC or AC plugins.
A DC electric pump draws power from your car’s 12V outlet
An AC electric pump uses a generator or wall outlet
Battery Powered – uses 4D batteries.
Some airbeds will come with a pump built in. They run off a pair of 4D batteries. When you want the luxury of an easily inflatable mattress but don’t have access to a power outlet or your vehicle outlet, these are a perfect option.
Self-Inflating – Lightweight and easy to handle.
This is an ideal choice when you are camping and going on long treks and hikes. It isn’t the most comfortable air mattress but it’s a lot better than sleeping on the cold hard ground.
What sizes are available?
Airbeds are a convenient way to get a good night’s sleep anywhere. They are compact, easy to carry and store. You can bring the along on trips or keep them in a closet until house guest. Whether you are buying an air mattress for overnight guest in your home or for camping you want to choose the size that’s right for you.
And it is important to get the right size. Size really matters for an air mattress, especially if you are camping. For instance, If you have a small tent you wouldn’t want to try to use a queen size air bed. It would bulge out the sides of the tent and leave you without any room for to walk around your tent or to store other supplies.
Air mattresses come in a wide range of sizes. Usually four: twin, full, queen and king sizes. Some also come in youth sizes for toddlers. These are the best air mattresses available!
Most popular size is double!
The most popular size for an individual sleeper is the twin size. It is also the best size for camping outdoors. It doesn’t take up much room and you can fit more than one twin air mattress in most tents, so more of your family or friends can sleep in the tent with you.
